A 36X is best for shooting paper (to some) and a strait 4x is best for 6' targets to others.

Surplus military kits built on upper receivers of good quality are the next best route to go for a great FAL. Parts kits can still be found for $500-$700 and up depending on make and quality. If you post on the FAL Files forum you will probably get detailed information fairly quickly, maybe even a value estimate. Mundane info: it is in very ordinary metric infantry setup, and has a Type III receiver. The military arms channel did a nice comparison of the FAL to the SCAR and concluded very little changed over the past 70 years, the weapons are very similar.
