That's basically what the helicopter events expanded mod does among other things. It'll drop a supply crate sometimes with MREs and water and other useful stuff and fliers, though since it's a helicopter it'll usually attract a horde nearby the drop. It's so much better than vanilla and fits into the world pretty well imo.
