The effect of altitude on carb performance is vastly exaggerated. My drz has an FCR39 (no choke). I live at 2000 ft and my trail rides take me routinely beyond 7500ft. It's a *bit richer, but there isn't a dramatic loss of power or anything. Folks who actually ride at varying altitudes make sure their carbs are tuned and just go ride.

The MX is just there to make the most power it physically can. It'll be thirsty but will lift the front easily. As mentioned, the suspension and sprocket setup make a big difference. Yes, the Lectron will be a pretty large improvement over a jetted stocker. The stock carburetor is a huge restriction no matter how you jet it. What I didn't like about the Edelbrock was it had a weird feeling that didn't feel seamless across the rev range.

So calling an Lectron "EFI like" really triggers me an FCR has more similarities to a EFI Setup . You may also try CV carbs thats bigger than stock 36mm one on drz. Its realy choked down and can handle up to a 40mm CV carb no problem. CV carbs are realy fuel efficent and less sensitive to altitude and temp changes.Compared to the Lectron and the FCR the smart carb is similar price. I am not so much looking for huge performance gains by burning more gas. Smart carb is also for 4 strokes. I am thinking of just doing a JD Jet kit on the 36mm mikuni carb and seeing how it runs.
