LA145. Hey all, I took apart my LA145 to clean the carb out/replace old parts but I can't seem to keep the mower running. It starts strong but puts out a bit of black smoke, sputters, and dies all within ~20 seconds. I managed to not pay attention to the carburetor linkage when I was disassembling it so I'm assuming that's where the problem lies.

Current throttle linkage reconnection doesn't feel right and the engine runs at low idle regardless of setting and eventually stalls. You will need to use the needle nose pliers for this. Step 4: Connect the new throttle spring using the needle nose pliers. There is no throttle control--only a tab that is bolted to the intake manifold, which holds the throttle open. This Jeep belonged to a local fire department and was used for brush fires and parades since new. It only has 5000 miles on it. I kind of inherited the job of putting the carb back together. The linkage was all on the engine in the manner shown and the Jeep ran fine until the gasket broke and all the fuel ran out on the floor.
