2 posts · Joined 2018. #1 · Aug 16, 2020. Hello all, Last night, I started getting the infamous “Action Required: Shift to Park” message on my 2018 Volt, with approx. 26,000 miles. Wiggling the shifter has made it go away each time. Searching the forum, though, I see mostly 2016 and 2017 models experiencing this issue.
This is my solution to stop the shift to park message on a Volt. The micro-switch that people think is bad is supposed to have a lifespan of 100,000 uses, I'...One of your new posts indicate a 2018 Hybrid then this post says 2017. The shift to park issue manifests 2 ways. One, all trims (Hybrid/LS/LT/Premier) can get and is just a problem of the BCM receiving a park confirmation signal. The fix for that is wiggling, clicking, or replacing the shifter.When you step on the brakes, it gets an electrical signal that turns it into a magnet, which is supposed to pull a pin out of the way so you can shift out of Park. You won't really even need to disconnect the wires but may make it a bit easier. Anyway there's a small snap-on cover for the micro switch. You'll need to get one of those hook tools to unsnap it.
