VTX's Do require a higher idle than a HD. You don't want an X to sound like a HD. If the idle is not high enough on the VTX it can do damage due to not getting the oil ...

Make sure you check it with the bike level, Not on the side stand. Don't thread the dipstick back in when checking, just stick it in until it stops, then pull back out and check the level.
