Shoud be at least 12.6 v. Start the bike, rev it to 3,000+ rpm and again check the voltage across the battery posts. You should see a minimum of 13.5 v and would like to see 14.0 - 14.5 v but your new battery will need time to fully charge unless you took it home and charged it, which is a good thing to do. If it binds, you could be interfering with the clutch action, and could pull the hose from it's fittings, creating a leak, and no clutch action/shifting. Vulcan ...

I have a 2008 Vulcan 500 ltd. As far as preformance wise everything is still stock. It has roughly 1400 miles on it and has been service and well maintained. Not a problem at all, until today. I went to run into town and made it aprox 2 miles before it started sputtering like it was out of gas and lost all throttle power.But most likely Kawasaki heat treats all gears together in one batch, so in this case they may have produced an entire manufacturing run of 6th gears with the same problem. It turns on fine, but once I hit the starter it just clicks. Have checked all the usual things. I have had the bike over a year and am afraid to ride it. Sometimes it starts and sometimes not.I purchased a used 03 Vulcan 800 Classic in March. I took it out today, filled up the tank, jumped on the Hiway and after about 2 miles the bike stalled as if I were out of gas. I pulled over, put the gas lever in Prime and started the bike. Vulcan 900 Custom shift problem. Hello. I am new to riding, and have a new 2010 Vulcan 900 Custom that I absolutely love. For the first 120 miles, it shifted up and down like a dream. Since then, however, I have had problems shifting down from 2nd to 1st gear maybe 70% of the time. It doesn't go into neutral, it just stays in 2nd.

After engagement of gears as soon as I let the clutch out she didn't want to go and cut oooot. So after removing the Clutch Lever switch aka the Bullshit Switch and putting a loop into the contacts she was fine. Either but a new switch or do what I did.
