However, it appears that if a player accidentally clicks on the "Activate Premium" button on the Season menu, there is no confirmation and the voucher will be used.

It does give a 20 level tier boosts, but the ashes have strict level requirements so even on a free pass, you will be higher tier than necessary. If you don't want the cosmetic tied to the premium pass, there are no in-game reason to pay for it.
