Nikon generally names all their apps "Capture NX-something". I recall the predecessor to it was simply called Capture NX. Yes I did use NX D and previously Capture NX. The question was whether it was better to use ADL or just expose for the highlights and lift shadows in NX2. With the old D60, it was apparent that using ADL was a better way to go. In Aperture Priority, the camera did choose different shutter speeds with ADL turned on.The D810 in DX mode produces a 15.4 mpx image while the D500 image will be 20.9. So the D500 gives you more pixels in a DX sized image. If the DX magnification effect is what you are after I suspect the D500 is the better choice.
