I rerolled to try out a duel wield build on Ranger after seeing there being a Two-Weapon thing at level 2 or 3 Ranger. But my god it seemed so bad, either both attacks would miss or most the time only 1 of the attacks would land.

By default you can only dual wield if both weapons have the "light" property.Longswords are not light, so they cannot be dual wielded without the dual wielder feat. Short swords are, so they can be dual wielded by default. Longswords are versatile, and can be used as 1 handed or 2 handed, so that may be why it is listed as 2 handed.- The two weapon fighting feat lets you dual wield weapons that are not light and increases your AC by one when you dual wield. I believe the usual reasoning for this choice is based on assuming that the main benefit of dual wielder is giving you access to rapiers over short swords, giving you +1 damage and +1 a/c. Starting with Bard will make you more of a caster for the first 3 levels. After that, you can use Medium armor. This unlocks Extra Attack at Lv 6, and at level 8 the build is online. Dual wield builds arent really considered bad, but they are more often than not, less optimal than two handers, feat dependant, stat hungry and gear dependant where other builds usually work better with less.
