Some vehicles have a procedure to manually get the car into neutral if the battery is dead. It appears this doesn't have one which will complicate things considerably.

See if there is an transmission range switch on or near the trans where you can manually move the linkage and put it into neutral I dont know if the CLA has it since it has an electronic shifter but wouldnt hurt to check. 2006 SLK280.
