However occasionally it dips down to 600rpms and wants to stall. No lean sneeze or anything this is not a carb issue. All throttle plates are closed at idle.

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

If this does not happen you have to adjust your cables. Another problem can be that the roller of the carb hits the cam to soon. The key locates the flywheel in the proper relationship to the crankshaft and hence timing cannot get drastically out of spec unless someone has messed with the advance linkage.
