Yeah, this. A lot of the features in Stellaris are there to assist in roleplaying specific empire types, and I think purging fits in to those. You're right, mechanically it's often a bad thing, but if you always did the best thing mechanically I reckon you'd have a pretty dull game. TheGirlWhoLived57.
