If you're with the same kingdom long enough you could see the king die. typically they will elect you as the new king and it's pretty fun to run a kingdom. When you join a faction your banner swaps to their color by default. It is possible to remain in a faction and keep your custom banner color. Simply go back into your banner editor after joining a faction and edit it back to your liking. Alternatively, if you have a banner code cntrl-v it back into the editor.
